Occasions When Period Delay Tablets Make a Real Difference

The most important step to delaying your period successfully is to plan ahead.

Avoid discomfort while swimming and enjoying water sports.

Religious Pilgrimage (Hajj and Umrah)

Book at least 3 weeks before departure

Easily manage your cycle for uninterrupted religious observances.

Wedding or Special Event

Enjoy your big day without the stress of timing.

Adventure Trek or Sports Event

Stay active and comfortable during your physical challenges.

Long-Haul or Multi-Destination Travel

// Vaccination Guide

What Are Period Delay Tablets and How Do They Work?

Subheading: Three diseases, one jab, each still active in parts of the world.

How Norethisterone Works

Norethisterone mimics progesterone to pause your cycle. Start taking 5mg three times daily, three days before your period is due, to effectively delay it for up to 27 days.

What to Expect When You Stop Taking It

Expect your period within three days of stopping. It may feel heavier or more uncomfortable than usual. Note: this is not a contraceptive and will not prevent pregnancy.

Possible Side Effects

You might feel some soreness, have a mild fever, or get a small rash a week or two after your shot. Sometimes, people have temporary joint pain or swollen glands, but serious reactions are very rare. Your pharmacist will explain exactly what to watch for before you leave.

Who Benefits Most from Period Delay Tablets When Travelling?

In some cases, period delay can be particularly relevant for comfort, hygiene, or religious reasons.
Traveller Group or Situation
Why Period Delay Is Particularly Beneficial

Beach and water-based holiday travellers

Swimming and water sports are far more practical without managing a period.

Hajj and Umrah pilgrims

Menstruation restricts certain religious rites; delay is widely used and well-established.

Adventure and multi-day trekkers

Hygiene management on multi-day treks is significantly more complex during a period.

Women attending weddings or major events

Bloating, pain, and fatigue can affect enjoyment of significant personal occasions.

Competitive athletes and sportswomen

Period delay gives athletes control over cycle timing around key competitions.

Long-haul or multi-destination travellers

Extended multi-destination trips make cycle management unpredictable; delays simplify planning.
