Viral brain infection spread by tick bites. Once contracted, there is no specific treatment for TBE, and it can cause permanent neurological damage or death.
Get three doses: the second one to three months later, and the third five to twelve months after that. Please check with your pharmacist before booking if you have any allergies, as the vaccine contains traces of several ingredients including latex.
Same three dose schedule as the adult formulation with similar protection. Not suitable for under 1 year. Same allergy and latex considerations apply, medical history reviewed prior to each dose.
Side effects are typically mild and temporary. Common reactions include soreness, redness, or swelling at the injection site. Some patients, especially children, may experience brief fever, headache, or fatigue. Serious reactions are rare.
The TBE vaccine is recommended for those who spend time in forested or rural areas of endemic countries in spring and autumn, no matter how short the trip.

The TBE vaccine only protects against TBE; ticks also carry Lyme disease, for which there is no licensed UK vaccine. Avoid bites and you lower your risk of both.

No. TicoVac only covers the TBE virus. As no Lyme disease vaccine is currently licensed in the UK, preventing tick bites remains the only way to protect yourself from it, regardless of your TBE vaccination status.
