The entire course are 3 doses. The standard schedule is six months. For those with less time, there are accelerated and very rapid schedules, all requiring a fourth dose at 12 months. Your pharmacist will check the right schedule at your appointment.
The accelerated schedule is 0, 1 and 2 months and is available with both Engerix B and HBVaxPRO for all eligible ages. A very rapid schedule is 0, 7 and 21 days, using only Engerix B, in patients aged 16 years and above. Both need a fourth dose at 12 months.
Yes. Even one or two doses provide partial protection and are worth having if time is short. Your pharmacist will plan the remaining doses around your return to complete the course.
Yes, for most healthy adults. The 3-dose series yields long-term immunity without the need for a routine booster. Healthcare workers and students in clinical placements should be offered a booster dose at approximately 5 years after completion of the primary course. Your pharmacist will advise you based on your job and your health history.
Yup. Both Engerix B and HBVaxPRO are available in paediatric presentations. Your pharmacist will confirm the right formulation and schedule at the time of the consultation based on your child’s age. Note: The ultra-rapid schedule is not available to patients under 16.
